What is the working principle of the Reed Switch Sensor

Publish Time: 2023-09-28     Origin: Site

When an external magnetic field is applied to the reed switch, the two ferrous metal reeds inside the switch come into contact with each other, completing the circuit and allowing current to flow. When the magnetic field is removed, the reeds separate and break the circuit.

What are the advantages of using Reed Switch Sensor?

1. Due to the full sealing of the reed switch, it can be operated in almost any environment.

2. The resistance of Reed Switch Sensor is very low, usually 50 milliohms, while the Hall effect sensor is usually hundreds of ohms.

3. Reed Switch Sensor can directly switch in different ranges, including nV to kA, fA to A, DC to 6GHz. The output range of Hall effect devices is relatively limited.

4. Reed Switch Sensor has a relatively large magnetic induction range.

5. Reed Switch Sensor is not very sensitive to static electricity, and electrostatic discharge can sometimes cause serious damage to Hall effect devices.

What should be paid attention to when using Reed Switch Sensor?

1. Reed Switch Sensor can withstand higher voltage (miniature size rated up to 1000V). Hall effect devices require external circuitry to achieve a 100V rating.

2. Reed switches are capable of switching diverse loads, while Hall effect sensors can only switch lower voltages and currents.

3 Reed sensors usually do a three-foot drop tolerance test, which cannot be compared with Hall effect sensors. Because there are no lossy parts in the reed sensor, it can operate billions of times at low load levels (5V@10mA and below), which is comparable to the mean interval between failures of semiconductors.

4. The reed sensor will not be affected by the temperature environment and can operate between -65゜C and 150゜C without any additional conditions, but the Hall effect sensor has only a limited operating temperature range.

What are the classifications of Reed Switch Sensor?

1 level sensor

The magnetic steel of the liquid level sensor is installed in a float that can rotate according to the liquid level, and the reed switch is installed in a plastic tube. When the liquid level drops, the distance between the magnetic steel and the reed switch increases, and when the drop reaches a certain level, the reed switch is released; when the liquid level rises (such as the position of the solid line of the float), the magnetic steel and the reed switch are close, and the reed switch Suction. According to the on and off of the dry reed switch, the liquid level signal can be given accordingly.

2 push button switches

The reed switch of the button switch is welded on two copper sheets with pins, and a small magnetic steel is embedded in the plastic rod. Under the action of the spring, the magnetic steel cannot attract the reed switch. When the button is pressed, the magnetic steel is close to the reed switch, and the reed switch is attracted. When the button is released, the action of the spring makes the plastic rod rise again, and the reed switch is released.
